Most people imagine that crosses [we bear] come only in the square as clear cut, well defined situations we have to face in spite of ourselves. The truth is that most crosses come in the round - they involve a total human situation in which we freely opt to give of ourselves, our hard work and our talents, so that some good can be accomplished. They involve dying to something of less value so that something of greater value can see the light of day.
It is this type of personal giving that makes the witness of those who choose to serve the TEC weekend through prayer, positive sacrifice, and as "silent suffering servants," such a living, dynamic example of the Paschal Mystery of Jesus. They are the constant reminder to both the candidates and the other members of team that Jesus came to serve and not to be served.
